AC Flora takes down River Bluff in boy’s lacrosse season opener
Lexington, SC (Jack Kunowsky) - The River Bluff and AC Flora boy’s lacrosse teams opened their seasons last night squaring off against one another in a very exciting game. AC Flora took home the victory with a score of 12-8, pulling away in the final minutes. Flora was led by senior J.T. Irvin, who finished with a smooth 2 goals and 5 assists. Junior William King closed the game with 5 goals and 2 assists. Senior Blake Giles also added 2 first half goals.
It was a competitive game throughout, as AC Flora capped off the first half with a 7-5 lead after taking advantage of 4 River Bluff penalties. River Bluff countered Flora’s offense with some flashy goals by both senior Kevin Flannery and junior Austin Outman, who both had strong performances. Flannery’s goal featured a very nifty fake that left his defender flat footed as he snuck by and bounced it in, while Outman’s was a powerful outside shot to the top shelf of the cage. Flannery finished with 1 goal and 4 assists while the speedy Outman closed with 2 goals. Senior George Yansens also added 2 goals for the Gators.
It was an aggressive second half that saw the teams trading scores, River Bluff ultimately outscored Flora in the third quarter as the period ended tied at 8. AC Flora eventually pulled away in the 4th even though some penalties were exchanged. There was some very strong goalie play from River Bluff’s Andrew Moss, who tallied an assist to Ryan Yansens, as Flora’s Irvin found King twice down the stretch for two goals. One was an awesome behind the back finish. Flora’s defense and goalie play was also great in the 4th as they managed to stymie the Gators and hold them scoreless for the period, sealing the win.
River Bluff looks to rebound tonight with a home game vs. Westwood at 6 p.m. AC Flora has a game this Saturday the 23rd at 12 p.m. vs. Fort Mill High School at Eau Claire High School’s home field.
