County haz-mat technicians contain natural gas leak on Barr Road
Round Hill, SC (Paul Kirby) – Lexington County hazardous material technicians with the fire service contained a gas leak Monday. According to Harrison Cahill, spokesman for Lexington County, the leak was reported around 2:30 p.m. at 614 Barr Rd west of Lexington. Google maps shows that this is at or near the Jet Fuels convenience store near the intersection of Barr and Rawl Roads. The fire service responded with their standard fire equipment and specially equipped hazardous material response vehicles.
According to Cahill, natural gas was leaking from a line owned by SCE&G. Firefighters acted to make sure that the leaking gas did not linger or concentrate at any location or ignite until employees from SCE&G arrived. That crew shut the line off and will make repairs to it soon.
