Coroner identifies Gaston man killed by train, victim was deaf
South Congaree, SC (Paul Kirby) - Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has identified the man who died after being struck by a train near the intersection of Chapel Road and Lois Lane in South Congaree. The tragedy occurred at approximately 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 21, 2019.
According the coroner, Kenneth W. Zeigler, 59, of Gaston was pronounced dead at the scene due to his injuries. Zeigler was walking on the railroad track when a train approached him from behind. The train was using its horn and other warning devices however, Zeigler, who had been deaf since birth, did not hear or react.
The incident is under investigation by the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department.
