Pelion, SC (Paul Kirby) - Lexington County School District One and Prisma Health, formerly Palmetto Health, have partnered to launch an extra health care opportunity for the Pelion attendance area students. Working together, the schools and the health care provider can better assist parents to meet the health needs of their student.
According to the Nursing and Health Services Director Amy Wood, this is a school-based health component and clinical program that allows the students to receive primary care services in the school health room. It does not replace the students existing primary health care provider but provides help in non-emergency health situations. This could easily reduce student absences, make them feel better quicker, and eliminate the barrier of transportation problems. It can also provide basic health care for students whose parents might be penalized for leaving work to take a child with a minor medical issue to an off-campus physician.
In the future, the school nurse can connect to a licensed health care provider for non-emergency health needs. If the student needs a prescription after the telehealth visit, it can be sent to the pharmacy of your choice.
The school nurse will contact student’s parents or guardian before setting up any telehealth visit with their student. This allows the adult to maintain control over the student’s healthcare choices.

If you are the parent of a Pelion area school and you want your student to participate in this program, you must complete the consent packet. There are several ways to do this:

You can download, print and complete the consent packet and return it to the school.
You can ask your school nurse for a printed consent packet.
You can pick up a printed consent packet at the Pelion Area Schools Showcase on Tuesday, March 26, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Pelion High School (600 Lydia Drive).
Wood said the district is very pleased to offer parents this opportunity and encourages them to complete the consent packet as soon as possible so that your student can receive services if needed.
