Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) – Firefighters from the Lexington County Fire Service and Lexington EMS were dispatched to a residential structure fire in the 100 block of Grace Street around 3:30 a.m. Sunday morning. Grace Street is west of Lexington between Highway 1 and Highway 378.
When the first units arrived there were heavy flames and smoke coming from the single-family brick home. Firefighters immediately worked to put the fire out. They were eventually able to apply enough water to control the fire and the last equipment was leaving the scene just after 5:00 a.m.
One resident was on scene and treated for non-life-threatening injuries by the county’s EMS crew. No other injuries were reported. In total, 10 fire units with 22 personnel responded along with the EMS unit. Some equipment that wasn’t committed to the fire was moved around to empty stations to ensure the entire county had fire coverage.
The home was deemed a total loss by fire officials. The American Red Cross was called to assist the displaced resident. An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
