South Congaree police sergeant arrest four on multiple charges after a brief struggle early Friday

South Congaree, SC (Paul Kirby) – South Congaree Police Department Sergeant Stone arrested four people early Friday after a keen-eyed store employee called 911 to report a suspicious vehicle. Eventually, the vehicle the four were in ended up being impounded and all four in jail.

Sgt. Stone was dispatched to the Citgo at Pine and Main around 4:15 a.m. and quickly arrived on the scene. He found one man and three females in the parking lot. The four were in a truck together, and a quick run of the vehicle’s tag revealed that both the truck and its tag were stolen. As Stone began the process of checking each of the four suspect’s identification, the male bolted and tried to run away. Stone gave chase on foot, a short scuffle ensued, and the man was eventually tased and placed under arrest.

An officer from the Springdale Police Department had responded to assist the South Congaree sergeant. The police officers detained the three females and Stone ran all the suspects’ IDs. All four of the suspects were wanted in surrounding jurisdictions for various reasons. Stone called an ambulance for the male he tased, as is standard procedure, and arrested the three females.

A Springdale officer has accompanied the man to the hospital to be checked over before he is moved to the jail in Lexington. Sgt. Stone transported the females to the Lexington County Detention Center for booking. They will all face a bond hearing soon.
