Two suspects arrested after breaking into church storage buildings in Chapin
Chapin, SC - Over the weekend of March 30th and 31st, the town of Chapin had multiple thefts including forced entry into several storage buildings at the Chapin United Methodist, Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, and another local lawn oriented business within the town. On April 2nd, suspects were located and identified as a result of a traffic collision. The combined effort of the Lexington County Sheriff's Department, Newberry County Sheriff's Department, and the Chapin Police Department yielded numerous related and unrelated charges.
Mikel Edison King was charged with two counts of Burglary 3rd Degree and five counts of Breaking Into Motor Vehicles. Benjamin Bradley Hammett was also charged with two counts of Burglary 3rd Degree and five counts of Breaking Into Motor Vehicles.
Both suspects are still currently detained at the Lexington County Detention Center.
