Batesburg-Leesville, SC - The Batesburg-Leesville Police Department recently received donation to purchase an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), commonly called a drone. The Mavic 2 drone by DJI, will aid law enforcement officers in search and rescue, surveying, apprehension, analysis, and at special events.
“We are very excited to have this new tool on our tool belt,” said Chief W. Wallace Oswald. “Departments across the state, and country, are realizing the benefits of these tools in helping citizens and businesses.”
The commercial grade drone is specifically designed to perform highly specialized tasks. BLPD’s drone comes equipped with an external speaker, spotlight, high definition camera and a thermal imaging camera. These features will aid officers in finding lost persons, crime scene analysis, and monitoring crowds during large events like the Poultry Festival.
“Drones have been used in disaster response, accident reconstruction, and a whole host of other situations that aid the public,” notes Chief Oswald. “I’m excited about this new resource and how it will help the police department better serve the citizens of our Town.”
