City of Cayce closes park after coyotes spotted, residents urged to be cautious

Cayce, SC (Paul Kirby) – The City of Cayce has closed one of their city parks out of an abundance of caution. They said via social media that Granby Gardens Park will remain closed until further notice. According to the city, coyotes have been sighted around Cayce City Hall and one coyote was caught. It was found to have rabies.

The city is urging residents to call the Cayce Department of Public Safety at (803) 794-0456 if they see a coyote in the city. Cayce Public Safety Department is said to be working in concert with other agencies to address the problem and they will post a notice when the park is reopened.

Coyotes have become a prevalent animal in SC and has become quite a nuisance and danger in some area. Although parts of Cayce are very urban, the public should remember that it is adjacent to the Congaree River and all the woodlands that surround the river’s banks. With this kind of area comes wild animals. Several large alligators have even been found sunning in areas of the Riverwalk in past years. Coyotes can be dangerous to humans and have been known to kill small domesticated animals like cats and dogs.
