Lexington County emergency services respond to submerged car Sunday

Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) – Lexington County first responders found a car they described as, “fully submerged,” in a body of water at 777 Park Road near Lexington Sunday about 12:15 p.m. This is just down the road from the fire service’s Lexington Fire Station in a curve where there’s a large pond on one side, and a small creek on the opposite side below the spillway. EMS, the fire service, and law enforcement officers all responded after the 911 center took the call regarding the crash from a citizen.

The first arriving emergency responders reported that the driver was out of the car when they arrived. That person was cared for by the EMS crew while the fire service put rescue swimmers in the water to check the car. They later reported it was all clear. Eventually, the scene was left with deputies from the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department and the other emergency vehicles cleared the scene to open the road.

This is the second time in a week that the fire service’s specially trained water rescue team has responded to a vehicle submerged in water. Earlier in the week, a small truck crashed and flipped upside down in Congaree Creek off South Lake Drive. That crash killed the 23-year-old driver who was from Gaston.
