Duncan Graduates from Leadership Institute

Batesburg-Leesville, SC - The Town of Batesburg-Leesville is proud to announce that Assistant Town Manager Seth Duncan recently graduated from the Local Government Leadership Institute. Mr. Duncan is the first Town employee to graduate from the nearly year-long leadership program.

The Local Government Leadership Institute is a collaborative partnership between Coastal Carolina University, College of Charleston, Francis Marion University, Darla Moore Foundation, and the South Carolina City/County Management Association. The course ran from September 2018 until April 2019 and provides a skill-building educational experience for new and potential executive-level local government managers.

“It was a wonderful opportunity to learn from other professionals throughout South Carolina,” said Seth Duncan about the course. “The program prepares participants to affect change in their communities and I have brought back numerous ideas that will benefit our Town.”

Mr. Duncan participated in the third cohort of the program which limits participation to 30 professionals each year. Candidates for LGLI must submit a letter of interest, resume, and professional references to be considered. LGLI is open to local government managers and professionals throughout South Carolina.

The course consists of six multi-day sessions and covers topics such as Government in South Carolina, Managing & Administering Local Governments, Budget, Finance & Human Resource Management, Planning & Economic Development, Crisis Management, and more.

“Diving deeper into the subject matter and being able to collaborate with leaders throughout South Carolina was an invaluable opportunity. I learned how organizations have responded to natural disasters, are addressing everyday challenges, and leveraging new resources to revitalize their cities and towns.”

The next cohort of LGLI will begin this fall. The Town hopes to enroll other department heads or supervisors in the future.
