Law enforcement investigating reports of teen’s stabbing at Riverbend Apartments
West Columbia, SC (Paul Kirby) – Law enforcement officers were on the scene of a reported stabbing around 3:30 a.m. Friday morning at the Riverbend Apartments in the West Columbia area of Lexington County. Callers reported the victim was in the parking area of one of the buildings. Deputies, Lexington County EMS medical personnel, and a truck from the West Columbia Fire Department responded. While enroute, the first responders were notified that a teen had received multiple stab wounds to a vital area of the body.
The medical responders stood by a short distance away until law enforcement officers could arrive on scene and ensure it was safe for the EMTs and firefighters. Deputies arrived quickly and gave word that they had secured the area. This was relayed to the medical personnel by Lexington County’s 911 Center and the first responders arrived within moments of getting the all clear. The patient was treated on scene, loaded into the county ambulance, and quickly transported to the Trauma Center at Prisma’s Richland Campus. A firefighter from the West Columbia Fire Department was driving so that the ambulances crew could devote their full attention to the patient.
Investigators were on the scene taking statements and trying to learn more before daybreak Friday. Little information is available now as this investigation is in its very early stages. We will provide more details as they are released.
