B-L Elementary School students win regional art contest
Batesburg-Leesville, SC - A group of fourth grade students from B-L Elementary School were recently named as the elementary division winners of the central region’s Youth Art Month (YAM) Art Show of South Carolina. Congratulations to Brian Chen, Alyssa Guy, Anna Long and Matthew Storey who worked together to create a collaborative abstract portrait. The students studied the work of artist Sandra Silberzweig and together, they planned and constructed their award-winning piece using cardboard, paint and oil pastels. The students were honored at the Lexington Three Board of Trustees meeting on Tuesday, April 9th.
Youth Art Month, which is sponsored by the South Carolina Art Education Association, is held every March and is a celebration of the visual arts. The winners from B-L Elementary School will find out on May 5th if their abstract portrait won a state-level award during a program that will be held at EdVenture Children’s Museum.
