Car accident traps one, blocks South Lake at I-20 Monday afternoon

Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) – A car accident trapped one of the occupants of a vehicle involved in a wreck just before 2:30 p.m. Monday. The two cars hit right at South Lake Drive and the I-20 overpass causing one to flip on its side and the traffic to begin immediately backing up.

Lexington police officers as well as personnel from Lexington County EMS and the fire service responded quickly. Each began to do their job to ensure the patients were cared for, the trapped victim was freed, and the traffic moved as much as it possibly could. The firefighters used hydraulic rescue tools to cut the roof from the vehicle and once the injured person was freed, all patients were turned over to the EMS crew for treatment. Lexington police officers said that it didn’t appear as if there were any life-threatening injuries as a result of the accident.

The collision is being investigated by officers with the Lexington Police Department.
