Ellett Brother’s parent company CEO says Chapin distribution facility not closing
Chapin, SC (Paul Kirby) – The CEO of United Sporting Comapnies, the parent company of Ellett Brother’s in Chapin, released a statement earlier this year in which he told investors and their customers that the Chapin distribution facility would not be shutting down. He did so after rumors ran rampant that the company was on such shaky ground that they would have to close one of Chapin’s largest businesses and employers and file for bankruptcy protection.
In a letter to their customers, Bradley Johnson, USC Chairman and CEO, said, “I wanted to inform you that United Sporting Companies has decided effective April 30th, 2019 to cease operations of our Pittston, PA distribution facility. As we continue to look for ways to service your business as efficiently as possible, we have rationalized the Pittston, PA facility and will service your business out of Bellefontaine, Ohio and Chapin, SC.” He also said that customers of the Pittston center will be serviced out of the four remaining distribution centers in Bellefontaine, Ohio, Chapin, SC, Newberry, SC, and Salt Lake City, UT.
According to USC’s website, Ellett Brother’s has been in business since 1933. They have marketed and distributed a broad line of products and accessories for hunting and shooting sports, marine, camping, archery, and other outdoor activities. Their product lines include firearms, reloading, marine electronics, trolling motors, optics, cutlery, archery equipment, ammunition, leather goods, camping equipment, sportsman gifts, and a variety of other outdoor sporting goods products.
Ellett Brother’s headquarters is located in Chapin. It includes a 250,000 sq. ft. distribution center and a large sales office. They also own and operate a 140,000 sq. ft. distribution facility in Newberry, S.C.
