Local baseball team offers reading incentive program to local students

Batesburg-Leesville, SC - Students at B-L Primary and B-L Elementary Schools have an even greater incentive to read this spring thanks to a program offered by the Lexington County Blowfish baseball team

Through the Blowfish Reading Fair, students at both schools are challenged to read four grade-appropriate, extra-curricular books between the dates of April 8th and May 3rd in order to receive free admission to and special recognition at the team’s June 13th game at the Lexington County Baseball Stadium on Ball Park Road in Lexington. Students who participate will also receive a Blowfish Bookmark and Blowfish Reading Log to track their progress. Blowie, the team’s mascot, will also be at B-L Primary School on April 23rd in the afternoon to wave to parents and students as they dismiss from school with the hopes of encouraging students to participate.

This program coincides with a similar one that B-L Middle School recently wrapped up through the Columbia Fireflies minor league baseball team in Columbia. Students at B-L Middle School had to read six books during the third nine weeks and create a one-page report about one of the books they read in order to be eligible to go on a field trip to a game at Segra Park in Columbia on May 22nd. Around 90 students are expected to be able to participate in this event.
