South Congaree police officers take more drugs off the street

South Congaree, SC (Paul Kirby) – Sgt. Stone and Corporal Williams of the South Congaree Police Department detained a man early Wednesday afternoon after finding drug paraphernalia and methamphetamine on him. Stone pulled him over in the parking lot of Shealy’s PDQ on Main Street after noticing irregularities with the man’s vehicle. Cpl. Williams backed him up.

Stone said Wednesday that Chief Josh Shumpert has continued to make it clear to all SCPD officers that drugs would not be tolerated in the town. This comes amid a concentrated effort by town leaders to renew and revitalize the small town. It is home to many older residents, young families, and working professionals who wanted to live in a quiet area but be close to their work in Columbia. Sgt. Stone said that the chief often reminds the entire department that with any drugs comes crime. “Chief Shumpert has said many times that it’s our responsibility to keep South Congaree safe for the good, law abiding people that live here. Getting any drugs out of town is key to that effort.”
