Springdale gun death ruled tragic accident

Springdale, SC (Paul Kirby) – After a thorough investigation into the death of a man in his early 20’s that died of a gunshot wound in Springdale Monday night, the Springdale Police Department has ruled his death accidental. Police Chief Kevin Cornett said Wednesday that they had completed their investigation into the incident.

Monday night, police were dispatched to a home on Pine Croft Drive in an older portion of the town for a reported shooting. This happened around 9:00 p.m. When the first officer arrived, he found the young man dead due to a gunshot wound. There were others on the scene when this happened, and police immediately began separating those individuals and interviewing them as witnesses. The Springdale investigators were assisted by the Lexington County Coroner’s Office, the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department, and the South Congaree Police Department. After their collaborative investigation, all statements and evidence proved beyond a doubt that this was a tragic accident.

Chief Cornett once again thanked the other agencies that assisted Springdale with this.
