Motorists can expect traffic delays Saturday because of Lexington Kid's Day

Lexington, SC (April 25, 2019) – Chief Terrence Green of the Lexington Police Department would like to notify the residents of the Town of Lexington and the surrounding communities that there could be possible traffic delays and to be aware of pedestrians crossing the road in the area of the Town of Lexington Municipal Complex, Virginia Hylton Park and the Icehouse Amphitheater on Saturday 27, 2019, during the Kid’s Day of Lexington event.

The Kid’s Day of Lexington begins at 10:00 a.m. and will end at 2:00 p.m. and there may be some traffic delays in the area of Church Street at Main Street and South Lake Drive at Maiden Lane as attendees will be crossing back and forth across these streets from nearby parking lots at the Icehouse Amphitheater and Virginia Hylton Park.

Officers will be assisting in directing and stopping traffic during this event to ensure the safety of those in the crosswalk and attendees are asked to only cross the street at designated crosswalks. Parents and guardians are asked to be alert to their children at all times as the roadways around the event will continue to be open.

Main Street private business parking lots off of Maiden Lane will still be open during this time and parking will be for customers only. Those attending the Kids Day of Lexington will need to find a place to park in a public parking lot.

It is advised that attendees please arrive early to find a parking space in the designated public parking areas near this event at the Lexington County Courthouses, Lexington County Administration Building on South Lake Drive along with the newly opened Town of Lexington grass lot public parking areas on South Church Street near Hendrix Street.

Please only park in public parking lots as those who choose to park in private business parking lots near the event take on the risk of being towed.

As a reminder, there will be no overnight parking at the Town of Lexington Municipal Complex, Virginia Hylton Park or the Icehouse Amphitheater parking lots on Friday, April 26, 2019 and vehicles found in these parking lots on the morning of Saturday, April 27, 2019, will be towed at the owner’s expense.

Please follow the Lexington Police Department on Facebook and Twitter (@lexingtonpd) for updates.
