Irmo Police Department investigating Saturday morning CVS robbery

Irmo, SC (Paul Kirby) – Detectives with the Irmo Police Department are investigating the robbery of the CVS Pharmacy in the 1000 block of Lake Murray Boulevard early Saturday. Captain Courtney Dennis, spokesman for the Irmo Police Department, said that the suspect stole narcotics before fleeing the business in the early morning hours. Dennis said that the department is currently following leads after officers were dispatched to the store which stays open 24 hours a day.

It has become all too common for pharmacies to be held up and the thieves not even ask for money. Instead, they steal high powered narcotics like Vicodin, Loritab, Oxycontin, and others that are very addictive pain killers. Some of these are used by the thieves, and some are sold to other addicts. This problem has been exacerbated by the epidemic of prescription drug addiction which has taken over the country.

Captain Dennis said that the department will try and release more information as they can. They don't want to release anything that might jeopardize their investigation according to Dennis.
