Batesburg-Leesville, S.C.—The Lexington County School District Three Board of Trustees is making plans to find a new leader to sit at the helm of its schools. It was formally announced on Monday, April 29th that Dr. Randall Gary, current Superintendent of Lexington Three, will be leaving his role to serve as the new Superintendent of Spartanburg District Five. Dr. Gary will assume his position with Spartanburg Five on July 1, 2019.
Dr. Gary has worked in Lexington Three since 2013, first as the Assistant Superintendent of Personnel and Administration and then as Superintendent. While in Lexington Three, Dr. Gary spearheaded the full scope of operations for the district to include instruction, safety and security. Among many other notable accomplishments, he worked to implement a one-to-one technology initiative for students in grades first through twelfth; instituted multiple choice program options for students and parents to include the e21 Early College Program with Midlands Technical College and the Montessori program at B-L Primary School; and he expanded Career and Technology Education (CATE) offerings in the district by working with the state Department of Education and neighboring school districts. With his guidance, B-L Elementary School was recognized as one of Palmetto’s Finest in 2018, making history as the first school in Lexington Three to ever receive the prestigious honor. Dr. Gary was also an instrumental part of the process when B-L Primary and B-L Elementary Schools gained acceptance into TransformSC’s network of innovative schools in 2017. Dr. Gary’s public servant mentality led him to serve the Batesburg-Leesville community through his work with numerous organizations including the Batesburg-Leesville Rotary Club, Batesburg-Leesville Chamber of Commerce, and the Batesburg-Leesville Economic Development Committee.
“Without a doubt, Lexington Three’s students, staff, and schools have benefited the last six years as a direct result of Dr. Gary’s extraordinary leadership. His love for all students and passion for public education have been the evident and guiding force behind every decision he has made. He most certainly has left a permanent impression upon the entire Batesburg-Leesville community and while we will surely miss him and his family, we wish him nothing but happiness and success in all of his future endeavors,” said Stacey Derrick, Chair of the Lexington County School District Three Board of Trustees.
The Lexington County School District Three Board of Trustees is currently planning how to proceed forward with filling the superintendent vacancy. At this point in time, no definitive plans have been made, but all options are being considered.
