Chapin, SC (Paul Kirby) – A crew boring under a drive struck and cut a gas line estimated by the fire service to be either 2 or 2.5” in diameter Thursday. The leaking gas forced firefighters to close the area and wait for a crew from Dominion Energy to respond and stop the leak.
The crew hit the line after 4:00 p.m. Thursday afternoon. Trucks from several of the county’s Chapin area fire stations were on the scene quickly and realized the amount of gas leaking. They took quick action to ensure the safety of anyone nearby and had their communications center call for Dominion. Firefighters then stood by ensuring the gas wasn’t pooling until a work crew from the utility company arrived and cut the gas flow. No one was injured during the incident.
