Pelion, SC (Paul Kirby) – Ms. Dooley’s Special Needs Class at Pelion Elementary School received an award Tuesday night from the Woodmen of the World Unit 273 for their class’ recycling project. The Woodmen Life Environmental Award was presented at 7:00 p.m. at the Woodmen’s Banquet. This was held at their meeting facility at 3620 Augusta Rd in the Oak Grove (West Columbia) area of the county. Several students were on hand to accept the award.
According to Ms. Dooley, the award recognizes her students recycling project at the Pelion school. Dooley says that the students have been involved in recycling at the school for the past several years. Teachers and staff are asked to be a part of the project at the beginning of each year and have made getting into the habit of recycling a part of every school day. Dooley’s students give recycling bins to teachers and staff, then the students gather them each Friday. Initially, they gathered plastics only, but for the 2018/19 year, they have included cans as well.
