Cayce, S.C. — On Saturday, May 18, Dominion Energy will release water from Lake Murray into the Saluda River through the Saluda Hydroelectric Plant to support Canoeing for Kids’ annual “Raft-A-Rama” fundraiser. The river’s water level will begin to rise at 5:30 a.m. until noon.

“We’re grateful to Dominion Energy for their assistance with this year’s Raft-A-Rama,” said Jay Alley, founder and director of Canoeing for Kids. “We also appreciate the many people who come out each year to help us provide disadvantaged kids throughout our community with opportunities to experience the water like never before.”

Each year, Canoeing for Kids provides at least 1,000 underprivileged children the chance to participate in water activities on the river. Dominion Energy has worked with the non-profit organization for several years to ensure the depth of the river is adequate for the event.

“Our community is important to us at Dominion Energy, and we are thrilled to once again support Canoeing for Kids and their rafting fundraiser,” said Jim Landreth, vice president of Fossil Hydro Operations for Dominion Energy. “Safety always comes first, so we’re encouraging event participants, as well as anyone else who plans to spend time around water, to put safety first.”

Dominion Energy’s lower Saluda River web page provides information about current and planned releases from the Saluda Hydroelectric Plant. The page, sceg.com/saludariver, provides real-time flow conditions on the river as well as links to resources from the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, the U.S. Geological Survey South Carolina Water Science Center and American Whitewater.
