Lexington County deputy involved in wreck near airport entrance

Cayce, SC (Paul Kirby) – A Lexington County deputy, and the occupant of another vehicle, were injured Thursday night around 9:00 p.m. when the cruiser and the other vehicle collided near Airport Boulevard and Mobile Avenue. This is close to the entrance to the Columbia Metropolitan Airport. Both the deputy and the driver of the other vehicle were transported to a hospital to be checked for what is being called minor injuries.

The Cayce Department of Public Safety responded to the scene of the accident with fire and rescue equipment as well as law enforcement officers after the wreck was reported. The fire crew had to perform a minor extrication of one of the occupants after a door to one of the vehicles was jammed shut by the force of the collision. A crew from Lexington County EMS treated the injured on the scene before transporting them to the hospital.

The SCHP is investigating the accident as is standard procedure when a Lexington County vehicle is involved in an accident.
