Springdale, SC (Paul Kirby) - The Town of Springdale’s Department of Public Works has partnered with Springdale Elementary 2nd and 3rd grade students to plant and care for a vegetable garden.Public Works Supervisor Scott Bolser had the idea to partner with the school to offer a fun and educational gardening experience to the students of Springdale Elementary.
Since inception, Public Works Department employees have built the frame for the garden while the students were on Spring Break. When they returned, students were so excited to participate that the teachers had to randomly select students to help plant the garden. Among vegetables that were planted are tomatoes, squash, and okra. Each day, the schedule rotates so that each student has a chance to participate if he’d like to.
The town has said via social media that they hope the students will have a chance to see the vegetables grow and eventually taste them. Many are betting that there will be some students who stop by the school over the summer with their parents to make sure the garden is growing strong.
