Lexington Police Department joining the Click It or Ticket It campaign for the next two weeks

Lexington, SC – Chief Terrence Green of the Lexington Police Department said Monday that the town’s department would join law enforcement agencies nationwide and be participating in the Click It or Ticket It campaign which began Monday, May 20, 2019. Officers will be conducting safety belt enforcement activities through the Memorial Day holiday with the campaign ending on Sunday, June 2, 2019.

For the next two weeks, Traffic Division and Patrol Division officers will be focused on safety belt enforcement and officers will be working together on several saturation events specifically looking for violations of South Carolina’s primary safety belt law.

The Click It or Ticket It mobilization falls under the South Carolina Department of Public Safety Buckle Up, South Carolina initiative, which began May 15 and will extend to June 2, 2019, in an effort to end all highway fatalities. This is also part of the national program which is coordinated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The national effort includes state and local law enforcement agencies across the country and this campaign combines high-visibility enforcement with heightened public awareness through advertising and publicity.

The ‘100 Deadly Days of Summer’ fall between the Memorial Day and Labor Day holidays and anyone riding within a motor vehicle, both day and night, are asked to always use their safety belt to greatly decrease their chance of injury or death in the event of a collision.
