Lexington Two first-grade class finishes number 9 in nation in reading challenge

Pine Ridge, SC - Stephanie Boyd-Walker’s first grade class at Congaree-Wood Early Childhood Center was one of the Top 10 Classrooms in Epic!'s 2019 Spring Into Reading Challenge. The students came in 9th place in the nation, having read a staggering 7,349 books in one week!

Boyd-Walker’s class is the only grand prize winner in South Carolina, and tens of thousands of classrooms nationwide participated in the challenge.

As a Top 10 winner, the class won $100 toward an ice cream party, each student won a 6-month subscription to Epic!, and a swag pack filled with Epic-branded goodies. Students also earned another $100 for having read over 10,000 books this school year -- at 18,000 and counting. Students also earned an Epic! reading badge and reading certificate. These first grade students love to read and most are now reading above their grade level.
