Country star to represent Lake Murray as ambassador for area’s tourism district

Columbia, SC (Laurryn Thomas) - The Capital City Lake / Murray Country regional tourism board just announced their ambassador Thursday night. He is rising country music star Cody Webb. The partnership was made public just before Webb’s concert at The Senate, a popular music venue in Columbia’s Vista.

Before his 8 p.m. show, Webb, along with the president and CEO of Capital City / Lake Murray Country Miriam Atria, announced the exciting news of the upcoming partnership. This was done during a special, invitation only, backstage gathering with staff members from Capital City / Lake Murray Country, Webb, his team, and members of the press. Other members of Capital City / Lake Murray Country’s Board of Directors were in the venue anxiously awaiting his show’s start. Webb grew up in Ridge Springs, SC going to Lake Murray every summer. He described this partnership as, “very natural,” and said it was, “easy to talk about where I come from.”

Webb is famous for songs like “She’s Carolina” where he features Lake Murray and other uniquely Carolina loves like sweet tea, Gamecock and Clemson sports, and the Palmetto moon. He will be debuting a new song co-written and sung by Webb in early June called “Jon Boat.” Its accompanying music video was recently shot on Lake Murray.

Now a resident of Nashville, Cody plans to take a little bit of home with him and represent Lake Murray Country wherever he goes while touring. Both he and Atria feel this will fulfill their goals of bringing tourism, business, events, and recognition to Richland, Lexington, Newberry, and Saluda counties and all the wonderful things they have to offer. He will perform at the 2020 Taste of Lake Murray, a major fundraiser for the July 4th Fireworks Show on Lake Murray, next March. He is also helping to organize, and hopes to compete in, a jon boat charity fishing tournament next year on Lake Murray.

When asked about the best bass fishing spots on Lake Murray, Webb laughed about his poor fishing skills but said, “I used to tear up the crappy on Lake Murray!”

Under Atria’s lead, Lake Murray was chosen as the “Go To Destination ” for country music fans by the CMA in 2018, and was honored at the CMA awards. Known as The Jewel of SC, Lake Murray has also hosted many prestigious bass fishing tournaments including the FLW Championship, the Super Bowl of fishing competitions, in 2017. In many ways, the Saluda county native was seen as a natural fit for the ambassador position. Webb described his childhood in Ridge Spring as one that consisted of hunting, fishing, sports, and music.

Now, Webb has over one million views on his first hit single and thousands of streaming listeners. Next weekend, he will be playing at the CMA fest and continuing to tour throughout the year. “As his star continues to rise, our star will rise too,” said Atria.
