Lexington CVS armed robbery suspect in custody
Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) – Chief Terrence Green announced by e-mail Thursday that Shemar Khalee Payne, age 18 of Columbia, South Carolina, has been arrested. He was a suspect in the armed robbery that occurred in the early morning of Thursday, May 2, 2019 in Lexington.
Early that morning, officers were dispatched to the CVS Pharmacy at 5608 Sunset Blvd. in the town for a reported armed robbery. When they arrived, witnesses said that a black male, later identified as Shemar Payne, entered the store, presented a handgun, and a note demanding prescription medications. He then robbed store employees of personal items before fleeing the scene with the drugs and items.
The Lexington Police Department has five outstanding warrants for Shemar Payne. They included charges for Armed Robbery, Unlawful Carry of a Handgun, Possession of a Weapon during a Violent Crime and two counts of Kidnapping.
Shemar Payne was arrested by the Columbia Police Department during a traffic stop investigation Thursday night. The Lexington Police Department will be serving warrants on him soon.
