Women shoots man in what Irmo police believe was an act of self defense

Irmo, SC - On Monday evening around 7:30 pm, Irmo police officers were dispatched to a reported shooting at the corner of Fallsbury Road and Harleston Road in the New Friarsgate subdivision. When officers arrived, they found a man shot there. That man was transported to a local hospital but he was later pronounced dead. Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has since identified the man as Brandon Keith Bishop of Irmo.

When the officers first arrived, they found a woman who they believe shot Bishop after being involved in a domestic dispute with him inside a vehicle. During that dispute the woman was assaulted, and Bishop threatened her and made her fear he would kill her. At some point, she pulled a gun on Bishop and shot him while inside that vehicle. She then ran to a nearby home and police were called.

The Irmo Police Department and SLED are investigating this case along with the Lexington County Coroners Office. “This was not a random act. Bishop and the female knew each other and have some history of being together,” according to Captain Courtney Dennis of the IPD. “We are still investigating this case and reviewing all of the evidence that we have collected. "At this point, no charges have been filed, however the investigation is still on-going."
