Coroner identifies two killed in Charleston Hwy. crash

Lexington, SC - Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has released the identities of the two people who were killed as a result of a vehicle collision that occurred in the 2800 block of Charleston Highway in Cayce at approximately 7:00 p.m. on Friday, June 28, 2019.

According to Coroner Fisher, Melvin Clyde Horton, Jr., 54, of Cayce, and Heidi Joy Goots, 55, of Columbia, were pronounced dead at the scene due to the injuries they received in the crash. Horton and Goots were riding on a motorcycle when they were struck by a vehicle turning left onto Charleston Highway. They were not wearing helmets when the collision occurred. The driver of the vehicle was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Cayce Department of Public Safety is investigating the cause of the accident.
