Cayce DPS receives SC State Accreditation
CAYCE, SC - The City of Cayce announced Tuesday that the Cayce Department of Public Safety, led by Director Byron Snellgrove, received the distinguished recognition of becoming a South Carolina State Accredited Agency on June 7, 2019. The City was formally presented with that Accreditation at its July 9, 2019 City Council meeting. The accreditation is monitored annually and every three years the Cayce Department of Public Safety will go through the reaccreditation process.
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Accreditation Program, an initiative of the S.C. Police Chiefs’ Association and the S.C. Sheriffs’ Association, is designed to demonstrate a commitment to professional law enforcement practices. The process of becoming accredited is a lengthy and complex review of all practices, procedures, and policies inside the department. The accreditation process has been completed by only 10% of all municipal agencies throughout the State; Cayce being the most recent.
Tuesday, Mayor Elise Partin and the members of Cayce City Council took the opportunity to honor the Department and their hard work. While speaking at the City Council meeting, Chip Johnson, who's retired from SLED, said that the Cayce Department achieved the accreditation “in record time.” He also said that during the accreditation process, the Cayce Department’s sole focus was on ” providing the best services to the citizens of Cayce. This is an agency that others are looking to follow,” Johnson said.
Director Snellgrove said, “Our Department prides itself on its dedication to serve and protect its citizens through community-outreach policing. Our mission is to improve the quality of life in our city by providing exceptional police and fire services to everyone. Our Department continues to cultivate constant partnerships within the community while striving to maintain the highest levels of integrity, compassion, and professionalism. Cayce is a family and I am very proud of our family and our Department on this important accomplishment.”
