Gaston, SC (Paul Kirby) – An 18-year-old was seriously injured Wednesday evening after the dirt bike he was riding struck the front of a car Wednesday evening. The accident happened near the intersection of Gator Road and Treemont Lane between Gaston, Edmund, and South Congaree.
The young man’s mother, who contacted The Ledger, said that he was being transported to the hospital by Lexington County EMS. Several ambulances were on the scene and paramedics were being assisted by firefighters. Deputies were at the scene as well as troopers. The teen’s mother said at the time of the wreck she wasn’t sure of the extent of her son’s injuries, but she and family were enroute to the hospital at that time. A family friend later said that the teen, who had just celebrated his 18th birthday last week, was in very serious condition at Prisma Richland. There were fears he has extensive neck and back injuries. Family and friends were at the hospital, and his mother has requested prayers from the community during this difficult time.
The Yamaha dirt bike the young man was riding struck the right front fender, headlight, grill, and hood of a midsized car. The front of the car was heavily damaged, but it is not believed that its driver was seriously injured. The SCHP is investigating the crash.
Thursday morning, Daniel's mother and grandmother once again contacted The Ledger. They advised that he had two broken vertebra in his neck and had broken his back. They once again asked that the community pray that none of the damage was permanent and that he have complete healing.
