Vehicle ends up in a creek near Samaria early Monday, driver gone when first responders arrive

Samaria, SC (Paul Kirby) – Personnel from Lexington County’s EMS and the fire service responded to a submerged vehicle just before 4:00 a.m. Monday in the 5400 block of Fairview Road. Google maps reflects this being right where a creek crosses under the highway. This is southeast of the town of Batesburg-Leesville.

When first responders arrived, they reported that the door of the vehicle was open, and the cab was above the waterline. They didn’t find anyone trapped inside or hanging around on the scene. Eventually EMTs and firefighters left the scene in the hands of law enforcement officers and returned to quarters.

A truck with high intensity lights was dispatched from the fire service to the creek again at the request of SC State Troopers around 5:20 a.m. They requested this truck to light up the area while the vehicle was being recovered from the water. Troopers have not released any additional information regarding whether they have located the driver of the vehicle or how it ended up in the creek.
