Chapin, SC (Paul Kirby) – On Friday, August 16th, the Legionnaires of American Legion Post 193 in Chapin will inter another American veteran whose remains have gone unclaimed. The service will be held at the Fort Jackson National Cemetery in Columbia at 10:00 a.m.
The veteran being interred is SPC 3 Devon D. Kobold. He was born on December 4, 1931 and died March 5, 2017. SPC 3 Kobold served in the US Army from October of 1953 through October of 1955. Steve Goulet of the post’s Unclaimed Veteran’s Burial Program said in a recent press release, “This veteran honorably and faithfully served his country when called upon to do so and deserves to be buried with the honor and dignity he has earned through his service.”
The American Legion, the SC Patriot Guard Riders, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars will also help to honor this distinguished veteran. They will be joined by veterans from across the state to ensure this deceased patriot receives the honorable and dignified internment he deserves.
Moseley’s Funeral & Cremation Service will be handling the arrangements. The funeral procession will be escorted by the American Legion Riders and the SC Patriot Guard Riders. The procession will leave Post 193 at 102 Lexington Ave. at 9:10 a.m.
Once the procession arrives at the National Cemetery, Chaplin Richard Mullinax of Post 193 will officiate the ceremony. An honor guard from the U.S. Army and American Legion post 71 of North Augusta will provide full military honors. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.
