Lexington man located after fleeing murder scene

Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) – A Lexington man reported missing after a woman was found shot to death in his home has been located and taken into custody. Investigators now believe that he shot and killed his girlfriend and then fled the country to avoid capture.

Vincent Thomas Shivers, 50, of Lexington, was apprehended in Canada Thursday by members of the Toronto Police Fugitive Squad. He was boarding a plane bound for London. Deputies determined that Shivers had crossed the border into Canada near Niagara Falls and intended to flee North America. They coordinated his capture with Canadian authorities who ultimately arrested him.

Shivers was being sought after his girlfriend was found dead in his home earlier in the week. She had been shot multiple times and left dead in Shivers' home near Lexington. Shivers and his pickup were missing, and law enforcement officers began using all means at their disposal to locate him. Eventually, their efforts paid off.

Shivers is being held in a Canadian jail pending legal proceedings. Once he is returned to Lexington County, he is facing a multitude of charges including homicide.
