Swansea, SC - Brent Wilder is in his first season as Swansea Tiger Head Football Coach, and he shares some thoughts on four of his senior players.
Mikey Jones, wide receiver, is “primed for another great season,” and he takes being a senior football player seriously. Jones states, “my responsibilities as a senior player include being a leader, helping my younger teammates learn the plays, and keeping the energy up on the field.” Jones plans to attend college after graduation and hopes to continue football while studying computer science and technology.
Kenya Macon, defensive end and another varsity senior to watch, “has reshaped his body and gotten in better shape, overall,” says Coach Wilder. “He is poised for a great year.” There is a great deal of responsibility the coaches place on their seniors, both on and off the field. Macon stated he tries “to lead by example, because he knows the underclassmen are always watching.” After graduation, Macon plans to enlist in the military and eventually attend college.
New to Swansea this year is senior varsity quarterback, Pryce Whitten, who Coach Wilder says “came in and won the starting job.” Whitten is a welcome addition to the team and also takes his seniority status to heart. He is striving to improve his mindset, which he hopes will make him a role model to some of the younger players. Whitten aspires to continue football after graduation and attend a four-year college.
Jaquay Mills plays both running back and linebacker, from whom Coach Wilder expects much improvement. “He has gotten in better shape, “ says Wilder. “He is also ready for a great year.” As a senior player, Mills has set some personal goals that will help shape his future, too. “I’m working on keeping my composure, even when it’s heated, and I am improving my work ethic overall.” Mills is also dedicated to setting a good example for the younger players by “being a leader and role model both on and off the field.” He plans to play football for the University of South Carolina and major in Business Management.
Swansea visits Airport High School tonight for Game 3 of the 19-20 football season. Game time is 7:30.
