Pine Ridge, SC (Paul Kirby) – People in Pine Ridge must be happy with their town’s leadership as is. During the filing period to register to run for council, nobody filed. This means that Beth Spires Sturkie or Daniel Davis, the incumbent members of that body whose terms were drawing to a close, are unopposed at this time.
Pine Ridge is a quiet bedroom community and it seems obvious that the citizens and their elected leaders would like for it to stay that way. They have few businesses compared to surrounding towns. They provide police protection and a few administrative services as a municipality.
When Mayor Robert Wells defeated incumbent mayor David Busbee in a write-in campaign several years ago, there was a period that was tumultuous. Wells came in, fired or ran off the police chief and all the officers, and made some other changes that stirred some hard feelings. Things seem to have quieted down and Pine Ridge is back to the sleepy little town it was.
