Sandhills Middle student accused of taking knife to school, threatening classmate

LEXINGTON, S.C. – An eighth grade student at Sandhills Middle School in Gaston is charged with threatening a student and carrying a weapon on school grounds.

A Lexington County school resource officer interviewed the male suspect, whose name will not be released because he’s under the age of 17, Thursday morning at the school.

“Administrators notified the SRO about the threat after they received word about a possible weapon on campus,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said. “A knife was found in the student’s book bag inside his locker.”

The SRO determined during his investigation the student presented the knife to a classmate in a threatening manner, according to Koon.

Koon said the investigation into the incident is ongoing. The teen will appear in Lexington County Family Court at a later date.
