Woman charged with setting fires in Chapin

Chapin, SC (Paul Kirby) – A woman has been charged with setting several fires in the Chapin area. According to the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department, Kimberly Wooten, 55, of Chapin is charged with second-degree arson and willfully setting fire to land of another. She has been booked into the Lexington County Detention Center.

According to investigators, Wooten set fire to a trash can beside a home in the 2100 block of Island Trail. She is also the suspect in a small woods fire that was started on Island Trail on September 18th, according to the sheriff.

Investigators believe that Wooten may be involved in other fires in the area. Sheriff Koon said, “These cases are part of an open investigation into other fires in the Chapin area.”
