Pelion, SC (Paul Kirby) – Paramedics, firefighters, and law enforcement officers were on the scene of a fatal collision on James Dunbar Road at Otis Road north of Pelion early Friday. Calls for help began coming in just before 9:00 a.m. regarding the crash that involved several vehicles.
Firefighters and EMTs arrived on the scene quickly. They initially reported that the vehicles involved were both heavily damaged. Within minutes of their arrival, first responders asked that Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher’s office respond with personnel because someone had died on the scene. Her staff was enroute, as were SC state troopers. At 9:30 a.m. Friday, James Dunbar Road was completely closed and traffic was being detoured around the crash site.
Coroner Fisher has the duty to notify the decedent’s family of their loss prior to releasing any identity. This sometimes happens very quickly and at other times can take a long period. She puts the needs and feelings of the family first and will continue to work with them even after notifications are made. Fisher has asked that citizens not post the name of the decedent or descriptions of any vehicles involved until all notifications are made.
