Firefighters from multiple agencies battle vacant house fire in West Columbia Saturday night

West Columbia, SC (Paul Kirby) – Firefighters from the City of West Columbia, Lexington County, the City of Cayce, and the City of Columbia all came together Saturday night to fight a fire in a vacant home at 1835 ½ Sunset Boulevard. The fire was reported about 11:22 p.m. When the first fire crews arrived, they encountered heavy smoke and flames coming from the home.

According to Operation Chief Marquis Solomon of the West Columbia Fire Department, a fire truck closed Sunset Boulevard when they stretched a large hose across the road to supply water to firefighters from a nearby hydrant. He said their department checked the county property records for the address which indicated that the home hasn’t been lived in for some time.

Investigators are still looking into what caused the fire to start. Solomon said that the firefighters received assistance from law enforcement and EMS as they fought the blaze. According to the chief, no one was injured as a result of the fire.

Solomon said that the fire was in a small part of Lexington County in an area that’s surrounded by West Columbia. He said that the investigation will most likely be handled by Lexington County.
