Town of Springdale already planning Christmas assistance for elderly

Springdale, SC (Paul Kirby) - The Town of Springdale is partnering with the Lexington County Recreation and Aging Commission to help senior citizens have a great Christmas. They are sponsoring a food drive to stock Christmas food bags for local senior citizens in need.

Springdale Mayor Michael said that the people who work with the seniors everyday have developed a list of non-perishable items that would be the most helpful. That list includes items like spaghetti noodles, canned spaghetti sauce (24 oz.), canned tuna or chicken, green beans, corn, sweet peas (14.5 oz.), vegetable beef soup (10.5 oz.), peanut butter crackers (6-pack), breakfast bars, fruit cups, applesauce cups, boxes of raisins and instant grits/oatmeal. Donations will be accepted during normal business hours at town hall through October 31st.

It is a terrible thing to be without food when you are hungry. Statistic show that the rate of hunger among seniors aged 60 and older has increased by 45% since 2001. All of us ought to be able to a little something. Each donation matters and will go directly to someone in need. If you have any questions, please contact Town Hall at 803-794-0408 and speak with Leeann Eden, Town Clerk.
