Pelion, SC (Paul Kirby) – The owner of the property at 308 Water Tank Road near Pelion said overnight that his home was not damaged by the fire that destroyed or damaged several outbuildings and burned some brush Wednesday evening. He said at least one outbuilding was completely destroyed and others were damaged. “The house is okay,” the man said after firefighters had completed their work and left.
The fire that was reported before dark was originally thought to be a brush or grass fire. Dispatchers notified crews enroute there was a shed involved too. The responding firefighters saw a heavy column of dark smoke rising in the air in the vicinity of the fire long before they arrived. Once teams pulled up on the scene, fire service personnel reported that an outbuilding estimated to be 20-feet by 20-feet was well involved. More water tankers and other equipment were requested once firefighters assessed the situation and saw the other structures threatened or involved.
It took several hours to bring the fire under control and put it completely out. No estimate of the damages or cause of the fire has been released by the county.
