Rider transported to trauma center after crash at sports complex

Sharpe’s Hill, SC (Paul Kirby) – A rider who was enjoying the GTR Complex Sunday afternoon was seriously injured after the bike he was riding struck a piece of construction equipment on site. The crash injured the rider to such a degree that a medical helicopter responded to transport him to the trauma center in Columbia.

The call regarding the crash came in about 2:15 p.m. Paramedics and firefighters from Lexington County responded and quickly began to render assistance. LifeNet 3, the medical chopper based in Orangeburg, flew in to transport the patient. Additional fire crews set up the landing zone for the helicopter while others on scene were providing patient care.

According to their website, the GTR Complex is comprised of 500 acres of off-road, clay, sand, and dirt tracks. Their tracks and trails are accessible to bikes, quads, 4x4s, and UTVs for riders of all skill levels.
