West Columbia woman dies Thursday following single-vehicle accident

Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) - A 75-year-old West Columbia woman has died after she was involved in a single-vehicle accident between Oak Grove and Lexington Wednesday according to Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher. The accident happened just before noon in the 200 block of Cedar Road between Augusta and Mineral Springs Roads on Wednesday, October 30th.

According to Coroner Margaret Fisher, the driver of the car was Sharon Polk Mills, 75, of West Columbia. Lexington County EMS transported Polk to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead the following day.

Officials say Mills’ vehicle was traveling south when it ran off the side of the road and hit a tree, according to Coroner Fisher. She did have a seat belt on when the incident occurred.

The accident remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
