Gaston, SC (Paul Kirby) – A mobile home was damaged by fire on Gator Road Tuesday evening. The fire was reported about 3:20 p.m. on the road that sits between Gaston, South Congaree and Edmund.
First arriving fire crews reported that smoke was coming out of several sides of the home when they pulled up. Teams advanced hoses from their truck and aggressively attacked the fire. As more equipment and manpower arrived, the firefighters connected larger hoses to the attack engine from tanker trucks that supply water in an area with few fire hydrants. In a very short time, the officer in charge reported that the fire was under control.
Crews used fans to remove smoke from the home so that they could discontinue the use of breathing apparatus. After a period of searching for extensions from the fire, they began to pack up and leave. Eventually, the home was turned back over to the property owner.
Neighbors said that the home appeared to be damaged to the point that it was uninhabitable. They did not go inside to see if it might be repairable. It doesn’t appear as if anyone was injured and the county hasn’t released the cause of the fire.
