Springdale, SC (Paul Kirby) – The Town of Springdale is still in very capable hands after Tuesday’s election. Incumbent Viki Sox Fecas received 130 votes to retain her seat. Councilmember Steve Hallman, another incumbent, garnered 141 votes, and political newcomer Cory Hook received 136 votes to take a seat that was open. These were the only three that filed for the three council seats up for grabs.
Since Michael Bishop was elected mayor, he has been surrounded by smart, hardworking elected officials and a gifted staff. Together, they have moved Springdale into a whole new league regarding what the town is and can be. One need not do much more than drive down Platt Springs Road or make a stop at Benton Park beside the town hall to see the fruits of their labor. Bishop has said he will not seek reelection at the end of his term because he believes in term limits. He has subjected himself to two terms in limits he has imposed upon himself.
When the mayor’s term expires, he has a fine crop of well qualified councilmembers to turn to as replacements. Expect nothing but additional greatness from this small town that sits in the shadow of Columbia in years to come.
