Sharpe’s Hill, SC (Paul Kirby) – Lexington County Sheriff’s Department detectives are in the early stages of an investigation into a shooting in the Sharpe’s Hill area of the county. They received the call regarding the incident sometime around 4:00 a.m. Monday morning.
Very little information has been released at this point. We have learned that the victim’s home seems to have been targeted. The shooting doesn’t appear to be a random act. Deputies quickly responded as did units from Lexington County’s EMS and the fire service. At least one person was transported to a local medical facility with an apparent gunshot wound that was not self-inflicted. That person's current condition is unknown.
Sharpe’s Hill is a rural community that sits between Gaston, Swansea, Pelion and Edmund. There is a county fire station, The Store, which is a convenience store and gas stop, the City Gas, a few churches and some moderate income homes and neighborhoods. Most notably, the Peachtree Rock Heritage Preserve is also there. There is a Sharpe’s Hill Road. Harmony Baptist Church was once a hub of the community's activity. It's a church where many of the Sharpe’s who first inhabited the community have been laid to rest in the church's cemetery for more than a century.
We have asked the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department for more details. Given they are just a few hours into their investigation, they haven’t prepared any press release. It may be some time before they sort this out and provide more information.
